VANISHING AMERICA, BARN, ORIGINAL 5x7-inch OIL PAINTING by TOM BROWN

Barns are icons of a time when life moved at a more relaxed pace. They're symbols of honest, unpretentious labor. There's something pure about that and I've always enjoyed painting them.

I recall a time when I was painting one on a remote farm and chatting with the owner who was as weathered as old barn wood. He felt he was living in Paradise on his land, and he commented:

"In the country you're talkin' with Mother Nature; that's as it should be. In the city all you see is what man and government are doin'. That ain't no way to live."

So here's a memory of barns, and a vanishing time. Enjoy.
