SHOOTING STAR, NOCTURN, PLEIN AIR PAINTING by TOM BROWN


Yes, this actually WAS painted "en plein air". I enjoy painting night scenes outdoors at night, directly from life.

As I was nearly finished with this painting I happened to glimpse a shooting star streaking across the night sky. I immediately added that to the painting while the image was fresh in my mind.

I have a light weight portable pochade paint box that I use for painting on location at night, and I use a small miner's lamp affixed to my cap for illumination. I demonstrate this setup in one of my YouTube videos. Here’s a link:
