I love abandoned old roadside structures and often stop to paint or sketch them on the spot when I discover them. This painting was done from sketches I created many years ago.
The sketches were stored away and forgotten until recently. I found them again while cleaning out old studio files.
The building had been used for the unlikely combination of a restaurant and bait shop in the Midwest. I discovered the abandoned structure on a country back road and did numerous pencil sketches and studies of it at the time.
One of those sketches (on very yellowed old 4x7-inch paper) will be included as part of this auction and will be shipped with the actual painting.
