I enjoy the nearly abstract quality of small palette knife paintings like this. Painting with a knife prohibits excessive detail. It forces an artist to reduce the subject to its essence.

Yet a painting even this small can hold surprises. Like the red mailbox at the side of the road. And the power lines slicing through the trees. (Click the image for a larger view.)
